The Department of Sports & Youth Affairs was established in the year 2007 by bifurcating the Sports Wing from the Education Department.
The conduct of Sports & Games in Lakshadweep was organised by Sports wing of Education Department till 2007. Then the activities carried out by the wing were considerably less and were concentrated on few activities based on school children. Considering the National scenario of importance in the field of Sports, the then Administrator Shri. V.B. Salvaraj, IAS ordered to bifurcate the Sports Wing from the Education Department to function as an independent one as the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs.
